As part of their Czexas Project Post Industrial Artyšok will occupy Austin for one week to host a workshop that explores the task based system of devising used by students and alumni of the Academy of Performing Arts Theatre Faculty (DAMU) for creating new works. It is broken into two sessions each day with a showing of works on the 13th of July. This workshop is to explore ways of making theatre through the post-dramatic methods used in the Prague alternative theatre scene and how it can be used and changed by Austin artists.

It is broken into two sessions each day with a showing of works on the 13th of July. This workshop is to explore ways of making theatre through the post-dramatic methods used in the Prague alternative theatre scene and how it can be used and changed by Austin artists.

Morning (10am-1pm) : A site specific research and workshopping with the Prague artists to use the City of Austin as inspiration and material for making a new piece of theatre based on their time in the city.

Afternoon (4pm-8pm): exploring a different theme each day and using a specific task in the theme to create short performances. Each theme and task works with the question of how we use

material as an equal performance partner and not just a prop or tool to support the artist.

Workshop themes: Site specific, Object, and Improvisational Devising

Participants can join for either the entire workshop or choose days to attend.

The form of devising we use in Prague and the materials and methods used come from the tradition of Czech ‘authorial’ theatre and exploring ways to survive as artists under any circumstances. We work with different backgrounds and experiences pulling from a variety of methods. We look at the collective expertise in a room and start by doing small exercises and tasks that can be rooted in the post dramatic and authorial background of Czech theatre but also pulls from viewpoints and improvisational dance. The methods used are derived from the strengths of the group.

Cost: Morning or Afternoon $30. One Day:$50 Whole Week: $200
